What Anchor text means
Anchor text is the visible words that make up a clickable link. A reader, and a crawler, can often guess what a linked page is about just from those words.
A directory listing that links your name using your actual product name gives both people and search engines a clear signal. The same listing linking out with 'click here' tells a reader nothing about the destination.
Anchor text alone does not create trust or rankings. A well-worded link on a low-quality, spammy page is still a low-quality link, no matter how clean the anchor text reads.
When you can choose your own anchor text on a directory or guest post, use your product name or a short plain phrase describing the page, not a stuffed keyword string.
Why this matters for builders
Directory and article links that say your product name beat vague “click here” text.
Mistake builders make often
Some builders repeat the exact same keyword-stuffed anchor text across every listing, which can look manipulative instead of natural to both readers and search engines.
What to do now
Read Link building for startups, then check a handful of your existing listings for lazy 'click here' or 'this site' anchor text you can improve.
