How to check and use Domain Rating
What Domain Rating measures
Domain Rating is Ahrefs' 0–100 logarithmic metric for the relative strength of a website's backlink profile. The result comes directly from Ahrefs and is displayed with the required adjacent attribution.
Because the scale is logarithmic, the distance between two numbers is not a simple percentage difference. Use the same provider and metric when comparing domains; do not mix DR with another company's authority score.
- DR describes a domain-level backlink profile, not the quality of every page on that domain.
- A higher DR does not guarantee rankings, traffic, acceptance, relevance, or a followed link.
- A low DR does not make a relevant niche site useless to a specific audience.
How builders should use DR
Use DR as one comparison signal after confirming the practical opportunity. For a directory, first check that it accepts your product, serves the right audience, has a working submission path, and publishes a durable listing. Then inspect the final page and link treatment.
For your own domain, track DR sparingly as a long-run description of backlink-profile change. Investigate the actual referring pages and relationships behind any movement instead of optimizing for the number itself.
Know where the score comes from
Mydentify performs one bounded lookup and does not offer bulk harvesting. Ahrefs can change access, rate limits, or availability. The free endpoint requires an API key beginning August 10, 2026.
DR is not a Google metric. It should never be presented as proof that Google trusts a domain or that a specific link will improve rankings.
