What Organic traffic means
Organic traffic is visits that come from unpaid search results. It does not include ads, direct visits typed straight into a browser, or clicks from social posts.
A founder who just ran a paid ad campaign might see a traffic spike and assume their SEO is improving, when in reality none of that spike counts as organic traffic at all.
Organic traffic does not include every 'free' source of visits. Referral traffic from a directory listing, for example, is usually tracked separately from organic search traffic in most analytics tools.
Check your analytics tool's organic search segment specifically, rather than looking at total traffic, to see whether your pages and listings are actually working in search.
Why this matters for builders
It helps you see whether useful pages and directory listings are bringing people from search over time.
Mistake builders make often
Some founders look at total site traffic after a marketing push and assume it reflects SEO progress, without separating paid, direct, and referral sources from actual organic search traffic.
What to do now
Tag your directory and campaign links with the UTM Link Builder so organic search traffic is not mixed in with other sources.
