What Indexability means
Indexability is whether search engines are actually allowed to show a page in results — not blocked by a noindex tag, a robots.txt rule, or another barrier.
A founder might spend weeks perfecting a directory listing page's content, then discover the page was set to noindex by a default template setting, meaning it could never appear in search results at all.
Indexability is not the same as ranking well. A page can be fully indexable and still rank poorly; the two are separate problems with separate fixes.
Check a page's indexability by viewing its page source for a noindex meta tag and checking robots.txt for any rule that blocks that path.
Why this matters for builders
A great listing page that is noindexed cannot help search discovery.
Mistake builders make often
Builders sometimes assume a page is showing up in search just because it looks fine in a browser, without checking whether it is actually indexable at all.
What to do now
Run your key pages through the Canonical URL Checker to confirm nothing is accidentally blocking them from search results.
