What Domain Rating means
Domain Rating, or DR, is Ahrefs' own 0–100 score describing how strong a site's backlink profile looks compared to others in their index. It is a third-party metric, not something Google publishes.
A founder comparing two potential guest post targets might lean toward the site with the higher DR, assuming it will pass along more authority — a reasonable starting signal, but only one piece of the decision.
Domain Rating is not a Google ranking factor, and Google does not use it at all. It measures Ahrefs' view of backlinks, not search performance, topic fit, or content quality.
Check a site's DR with a domain authority tool, but pair it with a look at whether the site's actual audience and topic match your product.
Why this matters for builders
Compare directories with DR, but judge fit and listing quality too.
Mistake builders make often
Some builders chase the highest possible DR directories regardless of topic fit, landing links from sites that have nothing to do with their product or audience.
